Port Colborne Field Target Club

Results for May 15, 2010

The first match of the outdoor season was attended by 27 competitors and turned out to be an excellent day.  It was cool and breezy, but with no rain, I did not hear anyone complaining.  We used a different format, with two targets on each of fifteen lanes making up the 60 shot course as opposed to the ten lane, three targets per lane format we had been using.  This spread shooters out and allowed us to move through the course without delays.

The course featured a great variety of difficulty as well as a standing lane and a kneeling lane.  Unfortunately, I simply forgot to mark down the range and kill zone sizes for the targets, like I usually do as I shoot the course, so I estimated the difficulty to be in the mid thirties and the scores seem to bear that out.  There was a great deal of standing water in the forest, but the gravel shooting platforms kept the shooters high and dry.  The gravel path had some wet spots, but nothing that could not be avoided.

At the break there were some comments about being a little rusty, chasing a zero that seemed to have shifted or the sudden gust of wind that caused a stray shot.  By the end however, the scores seemed quite good for the first match of the season on a fairly difficult course.

The Hunter Division was well attended once again and three new shooters at Port took part in the adult section of the division.  Dan had a great match, placing first, followed by Jordan, taking part in his first match and placing second.  Rob rounded out the top three with a good score.

Four junior hunters took part, with Braden scoring an impressive 94/120 to take first.  Tom P. set up a Discovery as a loaner gun for the juniors, which Kalley was able to use successfully to place second.  Thanks Tom.  Gillian placed third to round out the top three.

In the Open Division there were seven competitors in the PCP class.  Magdy took the top spot with an impressive 55/60, followed by Bill and Don respectively, who needed a shoot off to decide second and third.

Three duked it out for top spot in the WFTF Piston division, with George taking top honours.  In the WFTF PCP division, Chris had the highest score, followed closely by yours truly and Tom P., to round out the top three scores.

This certainly was a very encouraging start to the 2010 FT season.  I hope everyone is working to get their rigs dialed in for the June 19th match in Port, which will be the last match before the Nationals in July.

A big thank you goes to the guys who set up the lanes and all who helped with tasks like setting up the sight in range.  Bill brought some real fun targets that are always a great hit, as were the donuts and coffee he picked up after the match.  Thanks Bill.  We are grateful to all who attended to kick off the new season.

See many of you in June.
